Abstract

The relationships between the neutron-rich skin of a heavy nucleus such as 208Pb and the crust of a neutron star were studied. Relativistic effective field theories with a neutron-rich skin in 208Pb had lower liquid-to-solid transition density and a larger electron fraction. It was found that an exact measurement of the neutron radius in 208Pb via parity violating electron scattering has important implications for the neutron star structure.
