N2 - We designed a nanoscale optical communication device for use as an electro-optical modulator, an all-optical modulator, or an all-optical cascadable logic gate. The device is based on electrostatic forces and has the shape of a parallel plate capacitor. Careful planning of the dimensions allows for operation frequencies of up to hundreds of megahertz and a contrast of more than 3 dB. The device can be implemented for AND, NOT, and NAND gates.
