Abstract
A multilevel 8-PSK coded modulation scheme for fading channels, which incorporates a multistage decoder, is presented and examined. Interleaving is obtained by introducing a bit interleaver at the output of each component code. An upper bound on the average bit error probability of the first component code is presented for a Rayleigh fading channel. Several examples accompanied by suitable simulation results are provided. It is demonstrated that the proposed system exhibits a significant improvement over some known coded modulation systems with approximately the same decoding complexity.
