Abstract

The present paper deals with design and development of a multi beam antenna system for 3D surveillance radars. The requirement of a modern surveillance system, as envisaged by the present warfare scenario, is to have a network of portable 3D radar systems for a rapid deployment and gap free surveillance of the required area at low and medium altitudes. Compact, light weight multibeam antenna, one of the most critical subsystems of a portable 3-D surveillance radar, is required to form a very low side lobe narrow beam in azimuth, shaped cosecant squared beam in elevation during transmit for the required coverage and multiple low side lobe beams (of different beam widths) simultaneously in elevation during receive from a single aperture.
