Abstract

Selection of viscous fingering patterns in which a low viscosity fluid invades a more viscous one was analyzed in the limit of small surface tension. Simulations of anisotropic fingering showed that the selection of ordered patterns were only for not too small surface tensions. No regular pattern was formed for very small surface tensions and the system showed chaotic behavior.
