Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are emerging as potent materials in theragnostics, integrating therapeutic and diagnostic functionalities into a singular platform. MOFs are optimal candidates for drug administration, biosensing, and imaging because of their extensive surface area, adjustable porosity, and surface functionalization. In drug delivery, metal-organic frameworks facilitate regulated release and focused therapy, especially for oncological treatment. In biosensing, metal-organic frameworks increase sensitivity and selectivity for the early identification of diseases. The incorporation of MOFs with imaging agents enables non-invasive monitoring and real-time diagnosis. Notwithstanding difficulties in biocompatibility and scalability, MOFs exhibit significant potential for enhancing customized medicine and healthcare.
