Abstract

This paper analyzes several Mandaic texts treating different "heretical" denominations, like Jews and some Christian groups, as well as some possibly Christian or Christian-Gnostic sects, and, finally, those identified by the author of the article as Zoroastrians and Manichaeans. The author argues that these different texts should be seen as reflecting stages in growth and redaction of the Mandaean textual corpus. An early date for the redaction of some of this text is suggested. In two Appendices the original Mandaic texts are given, in Hebrew characters, accompanied by an English translation.
