Abstract
The static dielectric response of degenerate plasmas exhibits hitherto unrecognized zeros at complex wave vectors below a certain threshold value of the density. This leads to damped oscillations in a length scale that is smaller than the average separation between particles. A WKB-type treatment of the screening shows that the low-density oscillations reflect remnants of quantum behavior in the classical limit.
