Abstract
Unlike other foreign languages, fluency and prosody are a specific and intrinsic characteristic of French and are essential to the oral comprehension and expression of this language. In this article we suggest a reflection on the prosody of French (L2) for learners whose L1 is Semitic : two different families of languages whose speech and phonetics vary considerably since – unlike French – Semitic languages contain many jerky guttural sounds. In order to reduce the phonetic discrepancies between the two languages, it is necessary or even essential to grant intensive learning specifically targeting the fluency of the sentence pattern. We will raise the difficulties specific to the requirement of fluency of speech in French, we shall mention some existing solutions in various institutions of FFL learning, we will observe the specific problem relevant for Hebrew and Arabic speaking learners and finally we will suggest some solutions for FFL learners from the beginning of the learning process.
