Landau levels as mass excitations in relativistic quantum theory

Abstract

We show that, in a manifestly covariant quantum theory, the mass spectrum of a single charged particle moving in a constant magnetic field contains a discrete part, corresponding to mass excitations associated with the field, and a continuous part associated with the free motion parallel to the field.
