Abstract

The free radicals .CH2CH2OH and .CH(CH3)CH2OH react with iron(II)protoporphyrin, FeIIPP, to form the transient complexes (PP)FeIII - CHRCH2OH. The spectra of these complexes are reported. The transient complexes decompose in a first-order process via the reaction (PP)FeIII - CHRCH2OH → FeIIIPP + OH- + CH2=CHR. The specific rates of the latter reactions are 80 and 40 s-1 for the two systems, respectively. The results are compared with those for analogous processes.
