Abstract

General solutions for the kinetics of dissolution of beaded films (BF) into a single crystalline substrate are reviewed. Not only the role of diffusion but the possible reaction controlled processes are also analyzed taking into account interface reactions at the bead-absorbed gas and the absorbed gas-substrate surfaces. It is shown that the rate of the dissolution of BF depends also on its morphology. Experimental examples of silver on zafir and nickel on γ-Al2O3 surfaces are presented and the role of the electric charge of the islands in slowing down the dissolution as well as the way of the determination the surface diffusion coefficient is illustrated.
