Abstract
Based on the instructions dealing with daily life and with interactions in a world replete with pagan worship as they appear in Tertullian’s De idololatria and Mishna Avoda Zara, this study investigates the coping mechanisms adopted by Jews and Christians among their pagan neighbours and in their common environment. Besides the theoretical comparison and through the survey of archaeological remains of Jewish and Christian communities in late Antique Carthage, as well as by analysing the texts, the inquiry also attempts at mapping and reconstructing the occasions, places, and contexts in which contacts between the groups probably took place – or were avoided.
