Abstract
Iudaea/Palaestina is most prominently known as the ancient homeland of the Jewish people, the cradle of Christianity, and as a terra sancta. All these are true to an extent that can be checked in the many historical and archaeological overviews that can be found elsewhere (see e.g., Isaac 2020; Magness50 2012). This chapter is dedicated to the geography of Iudaea/Palaestina, the people that laid claim to each of its geographical units, their diverse material cultures, and languages between the third century BC and the third century AD.
