Abstract
The integration of variable optical attenuation (VOA) and multicast capabilities into the optical switch was discussed. The addition of these new capabilities into the optical switch increased the operation speed, offering significant advantages and enabling a variety of new applications. Some of the new applications that stand to benefit from these next-generation optical components were explored.
