Abstract

The effects of divalent cobalt ions on the inflammatory and proliferative response of human endothelial cells (EC) were investigated. The expression of pro-inflammatory and cell cycle-involved factors were also examined. Staining of the cell cycle-associated protein revealed a strong reduction of proliferative activity after Co2+-exposure. The results revealed that the decrease was due to a severe reduction of the S-phase population of the cell cycle.
