Abstract
The results show that at night the air drainage towards the bottom of the valley fits Defant's model. The lack of lower temperature is probably connected with entraining of warmer air from Johannesburg Central Business District towards the valley. Only during two mornings were anabatic winds recorded. This phenomenon is probably connected with the strong heat island existing above the city at the top of the valley at sunrise.- from Author
