Abstract

The areal distribution of the mean minimum and maximum temperatures over Johannesburg in December 1966 and June 1967 are presented. Multiple regression analysis is used to determine the effects of topography and urban development on these distributions. Slope lapse rates in Johannesburg’s northern valleys are shown to reach 18°C/100 m on clear winter nights.
