Induction of ovulation in amenorrhea using gonadotrophin releasing hormone as nasal drops (Hebrew)

Abstract

Synthetic gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) in the form of self administered nasal drops was used in a woman with amenorrhea and anovulatory infertility. Follicular maturation was induced with human menopausal gonadotrophin (HMG), and GnRH was given four times every two hours for six hours (total 7.5 mg) on three consecutive days. Significant elevation of plasma LH level resulted over a period of at least eight hours each day. Induction of ovulation was indicated by a biphasic BBT curve, a plasma progesterone level of 13 ng/ml and a luteal phase of 14 days. It is concluded that synthetic GnRH, in the form of nasal drops, is effective in eliciting and maintaining high plasma LH levels, which can lead to ovulation in patients in whom follicular maturation has been induced with HMG. The method is convenient for long term therapy.
