N2 - The question of the effectiveness of repetitive work has been widely discussed in the literature. The article examines this issue in a situation in which the teacher teaches the same lesson several times a week to parallel classes. 466 teachers responded to a questionnaire designed to study the positive and negative aspects of lesson repetition, as well as the attitude of teachers to repetitive instruction.
The findings indicate that the advantages of the repeated lesson exceed the drawbacks. Teachers regard a second lesson as an opportunity for improvement. In contrast to the original delivery, it is characterized by enrichment with new subjects and exercises, diversity of instruction, improved utilization of time, calmer presentation, increased self-confidence, and economy of preparation time. Teachers are very interested in repeating the lessons they have taught once, but they object to further repetition, which might be boring. Other factors, which contribute to the difference between those who prefer repetitive teaching and those who desire more variety, are the educational background of the teacher and the extent of his work load. The findings suggest that assignment of teachers to repetitive lessons is a possible means of improving instruction quality and work satisfaction without investment of expensive resources.
