Abstract

This volume highlights the human rights issue in the intersection between governance and international law, focusing on the interdependence of national and international actors in Global South politics. It promotes an intercultural and interdisciplinary emphasis on human rights. The various chapters show that International Organizations (IO) and human rights nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) encompass a wide range of protections and privileges of human rights. However, armed conflicts, poverty, inequality, corruption, ethnic and religious conflicts pose significant obstacles to the fulfillment of human rights. The consequences of these atrocities are far-reaching, leaving lasting scars on individuals, communities, and nations. Addressing these challenges requires collaborative efforts from both domestic and international parties. We developed a revised approach to human rights that emphasizes the nexus between checks and balances and interdependence between NGOs and sovereign states in the Global South. The principles and mechanisms offered in this book need to be embedded in the international human rights regime and in institutions that provide working checks and balances against human rights abuses.
