Abstract

The effect of the multiplicative noise in the equation of motion of an underdamped harmonic oscillator on the average coordinate of an oscillator was studied. It was observed that a fluctuating damping parameter causes an instability for sufficiently large strength of noise. It was found that on subjecting to an external periodic force, the output signal shows a monotonic dependence on the strength and the rate of a color noise. For the random damping parameter, contrary to the case of a random frequency, this effect existed for white noise as well.
