N2 - The present paper investigates the various commentaries in Jewish medieval thought on the miracle of the sun standing still at Joshua's command. The commentaries fall under the following categories: 1. Natural interpretation, according to which the miracle occured in the warriors' consciousness, but not in reality. 2. Moderating interpretation which put forward a synthesis between miracle and Nature. 3. Conservative interpretation according to which the sun literally stood still. In this section we examine mostly the first commentary, put forward by Abraham ibn Ezra, Maimonides and Gersonides.
