Abstract
The work begins abruptly with a violent statement of the principal motif by the ensemble. Then evolves a music suspended both in time and tonality, yet full of portentous meaning. From an increasingly sonorous landscape, a chorale-like tune gradually emerged, and this becomes the primary thread of the composition. The tonal language, often triadic, is nevertheless modern and idiosyncratic.
This work was originally commissioned by the London Schubert Players, and another version for violin, clarinet, cello and piano was recorded by Meitar Ensemble on 2011.
Performed by T'ang Quartet: NG Yu-Ying (1st violin) ; ANG Chek Meng (2nd violin) ; Lionel TAN (viola) ; Leslie TAN (cello).
