Forecast Types and Forecast Techniques: a taxonomic approach

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

“Prediction”,“projection”, and “forecast” are all terms used to describe specific operations performed on statistical time series to obtain a picture of possible future developments. There are, of course, a considerable number of statistically-based methods that exist for this purpose. However, while the statistical methodology is well developed in this regard, it still seems that both the overall methodological approach to the problem and the basic assumptions underlying the forecasting process itself have not received much attention.
