Abstract
We report the results of extended x-ray absorption fine-structure investigations on the Mn and Fe edges of icosahedral Al74(Mn0.88Fe0.12)20Si6 and decagonal Al79(Mn0.88Fe0.12)21. Fe and Mn sites in both alloys are compared directly. No significant difference was found between radial distributions around Mn and Fe atoms in the icosahedral sample. However, the distribution around Mn atoms has a broader distribution than that around Fe atoms in the decagonal phase. Implications of these results are discussed.
