Abstract

4-Hydroxymethyl-2,4-pentadienoate was effectively synthesized and used for a synthetic entry to keto bridged bicyclo [n.3.1] alkanones and for the synthesis of a 12-membered macrodilide characterized by two trans double bonds, part of two vinylogous α-methylene lactone units.
