Abstract

The recent discovery of Dirac and Weyl semimetals (WSM) promises novel transport properties with exceptional magneto-resistance. We have grown high quality single crystals of one of the candidate compound TaP using iodine vapour transport method. We further carried out magnetotransport measurement in temperature regime 5 K to 300 K. The residual resistivity ratio (RRR) is around 11, implying high quality of our single crystal. TaP exhibits linear magneto-resistance 2.31×104 % at 5 K and 125 % at room temperature in a magnetic field of 6 T. Our results imply TaP is a confirmed Weyl semimetal and that can host elusive Majorana fermions.
