Abstract
ESR and susceptibility studies of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite OsF6(C10OsF6) stage-I graphite intercalated compounds are reported. The anisotropy in both ESR and magnetization are interpreted in terms of a quartet ground state of Os+5, 5d3 configuration, in axial local symmetry. The results yield information about charge transfer, anisotropic exchange, spin-orbit coupling, crystal-field splittings and molecular orientation.
