Abstract

In a previous study we have shown that the EPR lineshape (especially the A/B ratio) may be used as a tool for investigation of the properties of dilute magnetic alloy systems. In particular we have discovered and studied a near-surface layer, with properties different from those of the bulk. In this communication we report an extension of this work for further investigation of the metallurgical properties of the Au:Er system, namely the discovery and study of the internal oxidation of Er**3** plus ions in Au.
