Abstract

Crystals of Ni3B7O13Br1-xClx with x ≈ 0.4 have been grown using a vapor transport technique. The dielectric constant, pyroelectric coefficient, dc resistivity, spontaneous birefringence, and specific heat have been measured in the vicinity of the ferroelectric transition. These measurements indicate that the behavior of Ni3B7O13Br0.6Cl0.4 is similar to that of pure Ni3B7O13Br except that the transition temperature in the mixed crystal has been shifted upward by about 70°C and spread over the temperature range 185 to 200°C.
