Abstract

The effect of propagation on the four-wave mixing spectrum for moderately long optical pathlengths was analyzed. The Maxwell-Bloch equations for an arbitrarily intense pump pulse and a weak probe were numerically solved. The semilog plot of the FWM intensity versus the pump-probe time delay was shown to deviate from linearity and may even change the sign of its slope for a range of values of the pump probe time delay as the propagation proceeds.
