Abstract
Our outpatient clinic for early detection of premalignant and malignant lesions of the female genital tract has been functioning for five years. During that period 3647 women were evaluated using various diagnostic procedures and 35 premalignant cervical conditions, 23 cervical carcinomas, eight premalignant endometrial states (hyperplasia) and six endometrial carcinomas were diagnosed. Treatment given in the clinic included cryotherapy for benign and premalignant cervical lesions and polypectomy of cervical polyps. We conclude that a special outpatient clinic can serve as a suitable framework for early diagnosis and treatment of women at high risk of developing premalignant or malignant genital lesions. It also serves as a link between the patient and the hospital by providing ambulatory surgical treatment, follow-up, and hospitalization when necessary.
