Abstract
This research analyzes the tradeoffs between distance traveled and energy consumption when electric drones and trucks are employed for courier delivery services. The focus of the research is on assessing the effectiveness of various drone-truck fleet allocation policies. The policies examined include: (a) drone fleet determined by profit maximization, (b) truck-only or drone-only service fleets, (c) different mixes of fleets for drones and trucks, and (d) a distance-based allocation rule. Results indicate that the relatively simple and intuitive distance-based allocation policy is the most effective in terms of distance driven and energy consumption levels.
