Abstract
A method based on ergodicity reasoning is developed that can be used to construct the distribution of blocks in terms of volume or any other geometric characteristics. The method indicates a bimodal distribution of block volumes, which is consistent with measurements. The method has been made the basis of a computer program that constructs the block volume distribution from specified system characteristics. Calculation results are presented for a model in which the joints are equally spaced.
