Abstract

The measurement of force-extension relations and the distribution functions of the extension were analyzed for filaments under tension. Investigations show that the orientational fluctuations and wall effects produced non-Gaussian distributions for nearly rigid filaments in the small to intermediate force regime. It was found that the width of the extension distribution was significantly larger even at the largest force measured. The results show that the distribution function was unaffected by the presence of wall .
