their sensitisation. If the cells are heavily coated, com- plete consumption of the anti-globulin takes place. This test proved most satisfactory in cases both of acute and of chronic idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. The test was also satisfactory in cases of thrombotic thrombo- cytopenic purpura, pancytopenia, and systemic lupus erythematosus. Positive results were obtained in cases of leukaemia and of generalised carcinomatosis. The nature of the coating globulin is not yet known, and it cannot be said with certainty that it is a true antibody.
