Abstract

Starting from coupled Langevin equations for the microscopic dynamics of the polymer-solvent system, we derive the equations which govern the large-scale hydrodynamics of flowing dilute polymer solutions. More explicit results are presented for several important applied flow categories which include weak, linear, elongational, planar Couette, and Poiseuille flows.
