Abstract
In this chapter, we stress the importance of the cytoskeleton for various functions ofall eukaryotic cells. We outline how the impairment of key proteins of the cytoskeletoncan be implicated in the development of various diseases. Consequently, these aberrantproteins should become targets for drug development. Particular attention is paid toneurological disorders and cancer. In the latter case, various drugs have been used incancer chemotherapy, and many more are currently in development stages. A fewexamples are given to illustrate these concepts.
