Abstract

Summary form only given. An overview is presented of several research results developed during the author's recent stay with the network architecture and protocols group at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights in collaboration with several members of the group. The main focus of the work has been to obtain efficient and reliably distributed dynamic protocols for computer networks in general and SNA networks in particular. Attention is given to reliable link initialization procedures, reliable distributed route setup, distributed central control, and multiple network control modes.
