Abstract

A complete measurement and analysis system for electromyograph (EMG) signals of human striated muscles is described. Automatic decomposition of the EMG evaluates the periodically occurring potentials of the different motor units (MU) which sustain the force in a loaded muscle. The system provides selectable decomposition performance levels ranging from a simple waveform analysis of motor unit action potentials to a complex extraction of each MU's innervation behavior under constant or varying muscle load.
