Abstract

Large number of people in the world are living in the cities and development of smart cities make their lives more comfortable. Power demand in the smart cities is increasing due to digitization. The smart technology related to power network, power generation, power quality detection and improvement, network protection, Vehicle to Grid (V2G), smart grid, and smart metering are key technologies which are being continuously upgraded to meet energy demands of smart cities. This paper critically reviewed 82 research articles and categorized in to seven categories which are related to general concepts of the smart city and technologies deployed for the smart city applications, Microgrid and control methods of Microgrids, generation technology for the smart city applications where Wind energy, solar energy and diesel generator detailed broadly, concepts of V2G technology, power quality detection and mitigation technology for network of smart city, protection technology and smart metering technology in network of smart city. This provides a ready reckoner for the Utility Network Technologies for smart city power developments to Engineers, Scientists and Academicians for smart city power developments.
