Abstract
One of Maimonides' letters, sent to R. Samuel Ibn Tibbon, contained responses to a number of the questions of the latter, the translator from Arabic to Hebrew of the 'Guide of the Perplexed'. In this paper, I will attempt to scrutinize some of Maimonides' translational suggestions which have hitherto evoked difficulty or puzzlement. It would seem that an examination of these proposals, accompanied by Maimonides' general guidance as is included in this missive, may be of assistance in providing an understanding of the role of language as prescribed in the 'Guide'.
