Abstract

Self-assembled coatings of long chain alcohols on nanoparticles of amorphous iron were formed. FTIR, and XPS measurements demonstrated the formation of chemical bonds between the substrate and the alcohols. The thermal stability of these coatings was investigated by using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The superparamagnetic behavior of the coated nanoparticles was detected by magnetization measurements.
