Abstract
Order-disorder and displacive components characteristics in barium titanate were investigated using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and x-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) measurements. It was found that the order-disorder component of phase transitions in BaTiO3 consisted of local displacements from cubic symmetry. It was observed that the order-diorder component remained constant in magnitude across phase transitions. The results show that the displacive components in BaTiO3 consists of reorientation of the displacements.
