Abstract
DEFINITIONS ARE SUGGESTED FOR THE CONCEPTS OF CAUSALITY ANDSTABILITY OF LINEAR SYSTEMS DESCRIBED BY PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL OPERATORS WITH CONSTANT COEFFICIENTS. THESE DEFINITIONS ARE MODELLED AFTER THE ONE-DIMENSIONAL CASE. THE OPERATORS HAVING CAUSAL AND STABLE FUNDAMENTAL SOLUTIONS ARE CHARACTERIZED ALGEBRAICALLY, AND NYQUIST-TYPE CRITERIA ARE ESTABLISHED.
