Budgeting in Judeo-Spanish: Jewish Administration in the Age of Crisis, Salonica 1928–1934

This artical aims to describe the activities of the yet-to-be Hellenised Jewish administration, based on information gathered from the original community ledgers for 1928-1934. These ledgers, written in Judeo-Spanish in Rashi script, are housed in Harvard University's Ladino Colection. Analysis of these ledgers enables us to draw both static and dynamic picture of Jewish community administration during that period and to examine the transformatin pertaining to the linguistic dimention of its administration.
