Abstract

An electron microscopic study of the bovine endometrial epithelium 6 and 7 days post-breeding was carried out. Both scanning and transmission electron microscopy were used and the ultrastructural characteristics of the epithelial cells were described. The average number of ciliated cells found in the luminal surface of repeat-breeder cows (RB) was lower than that of cows with normal fertility history (NB), although the differences were not highly significant (P < 0.1). There were no other major differences in the endometrial epithelium between RB and NB, regardless of whether a normal or abnormal embryo was found.
