Abstract

The distribution of three immunoglobulin heavy chain variable region gene subgroups (V(H)1, 3 and 5) was investigated, using the polymerase chain reaction technique, in 53 patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Thirty-seven patients displayed rearrangements of one of the above three gene segments. Over-representation of the V(H)5 subgroup was observed relative to its small size.
