N2 - Three new atom-optics applications based on rapidly scanning beams have been reported. These applications included (1) the generation of different types of dynamics for atoms confined by a (time-averaged) optical potential; (2) the generation of nearly parabolic two-dimensional potentials by rotating a Gaussian beam with a radius R = 0.55W0 (where W0 is its 1/e - radius); and (3) the demonstration of an output coupler for a circularly polarized scanning-beam optical trap.
